Music for a still undone movie maybe called Suttree

Krazov I found this album after reading the book and checking if there was a movie. There wasn’t, but listening to this album allowed me to “stay in the book” for months after I finished reading it, and in my head, those two are integral parts of a single experience. Solid stuff.

about

Inspired by the unique, powerful and poetic language of "Suttree", a southern gothic novel by American writer Cormac McCarthy, two German musicians (Roland Kopp and Michael Ströll) travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to visit the original scenes the novel took place. They decide to write and record a soundtrack to the "Suttree" movie, which has yet to be filmed, hence the album title "Music For A Still Undone Movie Maybe Called Suttree". Some of the songs were recorded at various locations in and around Knoxville, but the majority took shape in a studio in Southern Germany with a cast of 15 of the best musicians of the area. Traditional instruments like banjo, mandolin, guitar, dobro and lap-steel collide with trumpets, saxophones, didgeridoo and weird percussion to convert the individual scenes into music. Sometimes reminiscent of Ry Cooder-soundtracks or Tom Waits-arrangements, "Suttree" is so much more: Rockabilly ("Party At The Huddle"), metal-noises ("Typhus"), Bar Jazz ("TN Pearls"), Dixieland ("Suttree III"), a classical string quartett ("River III"), Blues ("Suttree (rudiment)"). A trip! The CD comes elaborately packaged in a cardboard sleeve with a 12-page booklet.
